Louis was born January 2, 1947 at the Methodist Hospital in Memphis,Tennessee. He grew up in the same housing project that Elvis Presley lived in. He and Elvis would sit on the porch and play guitar in the afternoon. Although they never played professionally together, they were close friends until his death. He still misses Elvis very much. Elvis nicknamed him "Highschool".
Louis' musical background in Memphis has been basically Blues and Soul music. At a very young age he played Curry's Tropicanna on Thomas St. with Ben Branch and the Largo. He has played with musicians such as Phineas Newborn, Lucus Coleman, Gene "Bowlegs" Miller, Hank Ballard, Ike and Tina Turner, Sam Cooke, Bobby Blue Bland, Roy Head, Gene Simmons, Bobby Lee Trammel, the Coasters, April Stevens and Nino Tempo, Dr. John, Chips Moman, Tommy Cogbill, Sid Mancured, Bill Black's Combo, The Daytonas, Wilson Pickett, and performed with Rufus and Carla Thomas at the Stax reunion on Beale Street. He played with Albert King, Albert Collins, Joe Turner, Glenn Campbell, Duane Eddie, Sonny and Cher, Johnny Rivers, 3 Dog Night, Sonny James, Ronnie Milsap, Ace Cannon, Charlie Rich, Jerry Lee Lewis, Billy Preston, James Burton, Al Jackson and many others. The list goes on.
Louis toured with Ronnie and the Daytonas in the early '60's (LITTLE GTO). In 1964, with Laddie Hutcherson and Joe Davis he formed the Guilloteens. Before signing with Hanna Barbera and moving to L.A. they played at the Roaring 60's teen club in Memphis. They were also frequent guest on George Kline's local TV program Talent Party. They appeared regularly at the Red Velvet Nightclub in Hollywood, CA. Their single I Don't Believe became #3 nation wide and #1 in Memphis.
In 1972 he signed with Stax Recordings, Inc. in Memphis, releasing an album and 4 singles on the Enterprise Label in 1973.
After Stax, he signed with Shelter Records. His single Love Someone And Make 'Em Happy/Crystal Blue was just taking off when the record company was sued by Columbia. They had signed and released a record on a female vocalist that was still under contract with Columbia. This shut down Shelter and Louis gave up on recording.
