• Gathered together from various British bands, and even from the Grassroots California, Coast Road Drive is a quartet of excellent musicians. Their only achievement during the brief existence is the lp Delicious And Refreshing, which nevertheless appears in 1974 on the famous DERAM label. Although the music of Coast Road Drive is not authentic, Delicious And Refreshing offers a well-chosen mix of British pubrock a la Brinsley Schwartz and American roots rock, there are similarities whatsoever with The Band, Little Feat and Derek & The Dominos. Combined with strong play and great compositions provides that witness 'It's All So Easy', 'Jason', 'This Time Around' and 'Over The Mountain', a rural country rock sound on which dosed guitar and harmony vocals dominate. Lazy stomping, and enriched with fatty slide guitar, is "If You Is not Got The Key '. Delicious And Refreshing, with a guest of Stones pianist Nicky Hopkins, is an excellent calling card of a band that in fact it was removed before the debut album appeared. Same British obscurities as Cochise, Hokus Poke and Anna Domini Coast Road Drive is a band that does a nice country rock album delivered, but unfortunately it has not made.
