Dutch rock band the Cats were popular during the late '60s and early '70s, releasing many English-language hits and full-length albums during their peak period. Formed in Volendam, the band was comprised of Cees Veerman, Piet Veerman, Jaap Schilder, Arnold Muhren, and Theo Klouwer. The Cats made their album debut in 1967 with Cats as Cats Can, and at least one new album followed each year until their final original album, 1980's The End of the Show. The popularity of the Cats declined during the mid-'70s, and the band ultimately broke up in 1979. Piet Veerman experienced solo success with the 1987 smash hit "Sailin' Home," and the band has reunited occasionally. ~ Jason Birchmeier
