Clemens van de Ven (1950) was born in a small town in the east of Holland, as the youngest son in a hardworking bakers-family. He started playing the piano at a very early age. After studying philosophy at the university of Nijmegen, Clemens packed his bag and became what he really wanted to be: a music-minded travelmaniac. His music reveals different passions and cultures and is based on traditional Rhythm & Blues. His growling voice resembles Howlin’ Wolf and Tom Waits and his music is in the same vein with songs that depict life after midnight.
Clemens van de Ven plays his music the same way he lives and loves life…straightforward and passionately. His talent is as unique as his career. He is a completely self-taught musician, who started playing the piano at the age of seven.
He studied philosophy at the university of Nijmegen and after his graduation, he packed his bag and finally became what he really wanted to be…a music-minded travelmaniac! Clemens has seen every corner of the world and absorbed all the different influences and impressions. His songs reveal all these different cultures, but the backbone of his music is still straightforward Rhythm ‘n Blues. He turns every night into “Such a Night”, one of the key songs on his repertoire.. His powerful pianobeat and his charismatic vocals have turned many a gig into a party, with Clemens giving the audience all he’s got. Because that’s the essence of his playing….all the way and straight from the heart!
Clemens recorded his first two albums with a trio called Narrow Escape ( Live and Delivery). In 1991 his first solo-CD A little bit of Love was released, followed by Is it You which was chosen by Music Maker Magazine as best independent CD of the year. After playing solo for a few years, he joined forces with drummer Sjoerd van Bommel. Their cooperation lasted for five years, during which they became a very popular live-act in Holland. Since 1999 Clemens has been playing with his own band, called VandeVen, featuring guitarist Harry Hardholt, saxophonist Arend Bouwmeester and drummer Sin Banovic. They have made three CD’s together and have played at famous Dutch festivals like North Sea Jazz, Oerol and De Parade and also toured abroad.

WAVES - фолк-рок группа из страны киви (столь же маленькой и короткоживущей, как эта пичуга), которая выпустила единственный альбом, а участниками группы состояли Michael Matthews, Kevin Wildman, Graeme Gash, David Marshall, была новозеландскими Crosby Stills and Nash.
Их дебютный альбом (продюсер Peter Dawkins, инженер Phil Yule) был записан в течение четырех дней в Stebbing Studios в Окленде с помощью Mike Chunn - bass (of Split Enz/Citizen Band), клавишника Mike Harvey, Murray Grindlay из Underdogs - губная гармошка), Mike Caen (из Streetalk) и другие. Waves was a Kiwi band that released this album in 1975 band members were Graeham Gash, Michael Matthews, Kevin Wildman & David Marshall. This album isn't my rip but have decided to post it as there was a request for it on Midoztouch the requestor mistakenly asked for the album as from Graeham Nash but this is understsandable as the album owes a lot to Crosby,Stills and Nash.
"If I recall correctly, Waves recorded a second album but it was never released - Direction Records went bust prior to its issue. Graeme Gash went solo in the 80's." Quote from detour over at Midoztouch.

Brian Parrish seems to have spent a large part of his recording career basking in the reflected glory of others, whether it be an early association with ex-Beatle producer George Martin, or from time spent under the guidance of Yes manager, Brian Lane.
Born in July 1947, in Seven Kings, Essex, Brian picked up his first guitar at the age of 11. He had a few lessons, but is basically self-taught. Both his father and grandfather are professional singers, so it follows that Brian's determination stayed with him throughout his school days, during the latter part of which he describes himself as being "a freak, a court jester", he would finish school for the day, would go home followed by his friends, pick up his guitar and sing Buddy Holly and Eddie Cochran songs all night. Fed up with providing free entertainment, he decided to change his image. He went to get a haircut. His hairdresser happened to mention that he played guitar, and before he knew it, they were forming a band which subsequently stayed together for 5 years - a large part of which was spent on the Continent playing at American service bases.
Following his departure from the band in 1968, Brian spent some time concentrating on writing and production, in fact, a couple of his songs were recorded by Johnnie Halliday and Mike and Bernie Winters.
A duo formed about a year later with a friend, Paul Gurvitz, now with Ginger Baker, and an album under the direction of George Martin was released in 1971 through EMI. The band, now consisting of five members went to the States early in 1972 for a two-month tour, on which they supported Seals And Croft and B.J. Thomas among others. The band went down well, but Brian recalls the highlight of the tour being Elvis Presley and Bill Cosby concerts they were able to catch!
Shortly after the band's return to England, and in the midst of management hassles, two members were made an offer by Peter Frampton, which they didn't hesitate in accepting.
And Brian? Well, he joined forces with ex-Yes keyboard player, Tony Kaye, Roy Dyke on drums and David Foster on bass. They called themselves Badger, obtained a management deal with Brian Lane, and went on tour with Yes. Their album, which was produced with assistance from Jon Anderson, was recorded live at the Rainbow, and quickly shot into the Billboard chart at No. 80.
Brian left shortly after to pursue a solo career. Now he has the distinction of having written, produced and performed the first single to be released on Chas Chandler's Barn Label. Brian's debut album will be coming soon.

Английский лейбл Bam-Caruso в 1983 году возродил из пепла наследие Waldo's Records, с трудностями, но с благородной целью спасения бесценных и потерянных драгоценностей психоделии и гаражного поп-рока шестидесятников (The Left Banke и групп подобного стиля), а также стал записывать новые звуки, связанные с тем, что называется "Paysley Underground", в Соединенных Штатах и для молодого поколения американцев. Правда, для этого был выбран несколько странный 12-ти дюймовый формат, со всеми, присущими ему компонентами, а именно: американская группа на стороне "А", английская группа на стороне "B", новые песни с привкусом мерси-бита и поп-бит 60-х. Так и этот двойной диск, который содержит в себе реальные драгоценные камни без всякого преувеличения. O группе Тhe Patriots мало что было известно как тогда, так и очень мало слышно о ней и сегодня, к сожалению. Родом из Филадельфии, это единственная официальная информация (хотя и блог Little Hits даёт ссылки на возможные другие места дислокации). В группе состояли: Carl Cutts (guitar), Joseph Borrelli (bass), John Klein (guitar / vocals) и Joseph Klein (drums). The label English Bam Caruso came back in 1983 from the ashes of "Waldo's Records" with the difficult but invaluable objective of rescuing lost jewels of psychedelia and garage pop of the sixties (read Left Banke and groups style) and record new sounds related to this thing called "Paysley Underground" in the United States and the young America. This 12 ", 1986, somewhat strange format, tried to do the latter with all the components to which I have referred, namely: American band on side A, English band on the B side, new songs with taste to Merseybeat and pop folkie Byds type 60. A disk of "double A-side", which contains real gems and has no filler cuts.Of the Patriots little was known then and very little was heard about, unfortunately. Originally from Philadelphia, this is his only official publication (although the great blog Little Hits hearsay reference to a possible demos). The band consisted of Carl Cutts (guitar), Joseph Borrelli (bass), John Klein (guitar and vocals) and Joseph Klein (drums).The Chicaynes had better luck, as they managed to record a single in 1981 with two of the issues raised in your part of this LP, the Further thoughts and Cry a little, two great songs that were wisely rescued. The face of Chicaynes goes in the same line as that of his fellow Americans, but perhaps this is more and less folkie nuevaolera.Two issues alone make the album worth: the Way That the Patriots (inexplicably not collected in collections in the industry, at least that I know of), and a little of Cry Chicaynes, a jewel powerpopera high caliber .

Невероятно редкая фолк-проговая запись из Соединённого Королевства, одна из самых загадочных и тайных музыкальных работ на тамошней прогрессивной сцене 70-х годов. Meлодичный звук, приличный вокал и хорошие аранжировки. Даже самые придирчивые критики готовы без споров согласиться с тем, что это один из самых красивых в своём жанре релизов, оригинал которого и даже переиздание были выпущены весьма ограниченными тиражами. По мнению некоторых других рецензентов - это очень приятный софт-рок (что вполне понятно, исходя из названия группы), допускаются сравнения с Billy Joel, Jackson Browne и даже Procol Harum!

They are an English acoustic band consisting of Hannah Garner on glorious vocals and David Amar on pretty much everything else (drums, lead and bass guitar).
Buying Time disregards whatever record labels are pushing for and what popular radio stations are playing. It has a timeless production that will still have its appeal in the next few decades. Which groups or artists have a brass section these days (More To Learn), for instance?
Just when you get used to their slower songs like Missing You and the title track, you are pleasantly surprised by Twist, a jovial track that will have you tapping your feet. Outta My Head, featuring Sonns Rele, is a magnificent song that gets better as it progresses and its climax vies for the album “best track” contender. Miss 600 will hopefully stick around for years to come. They go about pop in a different way by adding sprinkles of jazz and a bit of class.

When ex-Climax Blues Band member and producer Chris Bucknall received a call asking him to check out a young duo at Ryan's Bar in Derby he was more than intrigued.
A trip to the venue in Derby during an open mic night (where James Morrison was discovered) led to a meeting with Hannah Garner and David Amar with whom Bucknall was most impressed.
David Amar is a multi-instrumentalist who has been playing since he was a small child and singer Hannah Garner had just formed a You Tube channel onto which she loaded tracks of herself singing acappella renditions of various covers into a web cam. So well received were these little amateur videos that not only had hundreds of thousands of fans viewed them but four thousand actually subscribed to the channel. And Hannah was only 17 years old at the time.
Bucknall, who is responsible for discovering and producing Sony / BMG's Sam Beeton, signed them first to the Cubit Recordings label and then took them into his Nottingham-based "Nursery" studios and began recording an album for the talented duo together with co producer Robert de Fresnes and Miss 600 was born.
Miss 600’s debut album ‘Buying Time’ showcases their talent around simple catchy pop tunes with more than a jazz twist and includes collaborations with Maxi Priest, Sam Beeton, Sonna Rele and legendary film composer Ennio Morricone.
Their debut single called ‘Twist’ was released in July 2011 and spent extraordinary seven weeks on the BBC Radio 2 A list while also achieving over 3000 plays on UK radio. It was the eleventh most played track on Radio 2 during the third quarter of 2011 and also reached the Top Thirty on the UK independent Singles Sales Chart.
Miss 600 have followed up this amazing success with their latest single 'Typically Me' also taken from 'Buying Time.' Radio 2 once again showed their support and the single enjoyed 6 weeks on the play list and to date has had nearly 1000 plays on UK Radio.
Internationally 'Buying Time' has been licensed to Magic Records (Poland), Gallo Records (South Africa) and Time Recordings (Italy). In November 2011 they performed 'Twist' live to an audience of millions on the quarter final of Polands biggest TV show 'Dancing With The Stars' (Taniec z Gwiazdami).

Случилось это в 1971 году. Однажды в Милане судьба свела несколько музыкантов различных национальностей,которые решили создать группу. И так эта разношёрстная компания состояла из-австралийца Little Sammy Gaha, индонезийца Luis Noll, голландца Henk Meerbeek, англичанина John Irvine и индийца Errol Dyer. Уж не знаю почему, но названием группы избрали прозвище ''Синяя Борода '', легендарного сказочного убийцу своих многочисленных жён. Заручившись поддержкой продюсеров Thurman Binkley и Robert Welch (псевдоним Bob Welch-Fleetwood Mac, Head West, solo), заключили контракт с Durium Label. В этом-же году записали и выпустили одноимённый альбом - причудливую смесь психоделии, прогрессива и ещё много чего. Сингл Baby I Need You / God Save The World стал достаточно популярным. После этого альбом был переиздан в Англии на Ember Records. Просуществовав ещё некоторое время команда развалилась. Little Sammy Gaha создал группу Little Sammy Аnd The In People. Судьба остальных музыкантов не прослеживается. В 2010 альбом "Blue Beard" был переиздан на лейбле Fantastic Voyage.

Way back in 1971 a self-titled album was released by a group calling itself Blue Beard. Recorded and released (only) in Italy, the disc went on to become a collectors’ item. Fantastic Voyage ended up with the rights to the masters, and has re-released the album on vinyl only.
Then as now, Blue Beard was something of a mystery. An aggregation comprised of musicians from all over, the studio-only project included players from Holland, India, Ireland, Indonesia and Australia. Nope, no Italians. In fact the project was put together specifically to record a clutch of songs by a pair of composers, Thurman Binkley and Bob Welch.
Next to nothing is known about the musicians on the disc, beyond their names. And nobody seems to know much about Binkley, other than that he would later be involved with a French film soundtrack. Welch, of course, would go on to some fame as a member of Fleetwood Mac, just prior to their transformation into the vapid and overrated 70s pop juggernaut. (They still rocked when Welch was with ‘em, though.)
The music on Blue Beard covers a wide variety of styles. The single “Sly Willy” is a good tune marred by a grating descending-whoop that runs throughout the whole song (intentionally so). Several of the other songs tread in (of all things) a sort of Southern soul-pop style a bit like late-late period Paul Revere and the Raiders, Glen Campbell or Mac Davis. “Too Many People” is vaguely reminiscent of Rare Earth crossed with Three Dog Night; that sort of commercially-minded-yet-kinda-rocking vibe pervades the record.
The various styles attempted are all successful on some level (to varying degrees), but the net effect is lacking in a specific identity. This sort of thing is common to one-off studio projects: a real band made of players who have put in time playing together before entering the studio will develop a sort of musical simpatico, and that can’t easily be captured by studio cats.
A few tracks on Blue Beard break out of the soul-pop mold, and end up sounding like the kind of thing one might hear on compilations like The Great British Psychedelic Trip, (which, while often great and always British, wasn’t consistently psychedelic). The playing is workmanlike, and the arrangements occasionally head ever-so-slightly toward progressive rock, but there are ultimately no undiscovered gems here; there’s nothing on the level of Andromeda, The Open Mind or Locomotive (to name three obscurities of the era). There’s nothing especially distinctive here, but neither is there anything god-awful.
The musically-by-the-numbers “Goofin’ is Good Fun” has a funky/jaunty vibe that again evokes Country Wine-era Raiders. And while that reference elicits blank stares from most rock fans, so too does any mention of Blue Beard. “Butter Queen” attempts a style familiar to fans of Savoy Brown and Foghat, but tries to leaven the recipe with a slightly clumsy prog vibe. The result isn’t nearly the disaster that might suggest, but neither is it very memorable; there’s a good hook but a very weak chorus. And the singer - while competent - is no Mark Lindsay.
The best track on Blue Beard is the last, “Losing You.” A successful stab at progressive rock, the track merited inclusion in Fantastic Voyage’s Summer Turns to Autumn compilation. But anyone hearing it in that context - and subsequently turning to this album for more of the same - will come away disappointed.
Ultimately, Blue Beard sounds like what it is: good songs played by good musicians. Not great, though: the proceedings come off a bit rushed, slightly half-baked. There are better obscure early 70s rock albums out there waiting to be discovered. This one’s worth a listen, but for most collectors, it won’t be put into heavy rotation.
