A late '60s pop-rock supergroup from Los Angeles. David Marks had been with the Beach Boys; Matthew Moore was with Matthew Moore Plus Four and did solo work before joining the Mad Dogs; David Jackson came from Hearts and Flowers and was later with Dillard and Clark; Larry Brown had drummed with Davie Allen and The Arrows (and no doubt on many other combos behind film soundtracks and those Sidewalk/Tower releases produced by Mike Curb) and would later turn up in Gunhill Road.
Their albums are rated highly by some - not really psychedelic but with psychy touches and imagery, and more pop than rock - their sound has been compared to the Beatles and the Bee Gees from that period. Certainly well-crafted, dare one say, progressive-pop. Almost all material written by the band (predominantly Moore), the second album was produced and arranged by Moore and Brown. Worth investigating if this sounds appealing, especially as the LPs can still be found fairly easily and at reasonable prices.

• Основал группу "The Moon" бывший гитарист Beach Boys David Marks, который с 1962 по 1964 заменял Al Jardine. После возвращения Jardine в Beach Boys Marks организовал сначала Dave & the Marksmen (на тот момент ему было 16 лет) с которой выпустил три достаточно популярных сингла.
• Затем подвернулась работа в крупнейшем стрип-клубе "Sunset"; для которой он организовал группу "Band Without a Name". Там он проработал 1965 по 66 года и выпустил ещё пару синглов.
• В 1967 году он организовал THE MOON, которая считается одной из первых американских супергрупп. - Matthew Moore до этого играл в "Matthew Moore Plus Four", Larry Brown в "Hearts & Flowers", David Jackson пришел из "Davie Allen & the Arrows".Если до THE MOON Marks играл в основном сёрф-рок типа Beach Boys, то сейчас они играли типичную хиппи-психоделию . Сам Marks вспоминал, что писали музыку под воздействием ЛСД и музыки Bee Gees, the Beatles и Jimi Hendrix.
