Linda Ronstadt - Linda Ronstadt (1971)

Artist: Linda Ronstadt

Linda Ronstadt

Format: Vinyl, LP, Album
Country: US
Released: 1971

Genre: Rock/Pop,  Folk & Country, Ballad
Format: FLAC (tracks+.cue)
Duration: 00:31:03

This album was the last of Linda's early country-folk-rock music before she began the transition to the mainstream pop-rock artist of the seventies that made her famous. The music is still fairly simple and raw, unlike the slicker music that came later, but the song selection gives clues about the future. The backing musicians became the Eagles soon after this album was recorded. Linda followed this album by recording Don't cry now, a fine country-rock album, then by the hugely successful Heart like a wheel.

Linda Ronstadt - Don't Cry Now (1973)

Format: Vinyl, LP, Album, Remastered
Country: US
Released: 2008
Genre: Rock/Pop, Folk & Country, Ballad
Format: FLAC (tracks+.cue)
Duration: 00:35:26

Don’t Cry Now, her first record for Asylum, solidified Linda Ronstadt's position as one of the day's premiere female pop vocalists and interpreters. This is one of the most exceptional sounding female vocalist recordings of the 1970s. The album spent more than a year on the Billboard charts, and peaked at No. 45. Guest appereances include guitar work by both the Eagles’ Glenn Frey and super-sessionman Larry Carlton, as well as harmonica work by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s Jimmy Fadden, bass and drums by Lee Sklar and Russ Kunkel, respectively. And the legendary Sneaky Pete adds tasteful pedal steel accents throughout. Remastered from the original master tapes, Mobile Fidelity's version sounds exquisite and reveals every nuance and shade of Ronstadt's voice. Don't Cry Now is part of Mobile Fidelity's effort to present this iconic singer's work as it was meant to be heard.

Duration: 00:34:51

The story goes like one of those great, helium-filled musicals that Hollywood pumped up in the '30's. There's this nice looking kid named Jack Sigler Jr. see, who lives in Tampa, Florida (Moon, June, Palm trees and easy access to Miami Pop Festivals). He's hardly out of rompers when he turns into a music freak. At age 9 he starts with the guitar.By the time he's in high school (good old Brandon High), he's a star of the school band. Then round about 1967, he realizes he had it with Sousa and decides to form his own group. ("Can't cut the 2/4, kids. But we're gonna make it to the top--our way!")
So Mercy is born, and the rebels from Brandon High start gigging at local dances, making good sounds but little noise. Jack checks in at the University of Southern Florida, juggles his band personnel a bit, jells the group in early 1968, By now Mercy is cooking better than ever but still getting nowhere. What they need, fans, is a BREAK.
Enter one Hollywood producer, by the probable name of George Roberts, who has came to Tampa to shoot a snappy little film called Fireball Jungle with such heavies as Durwwod Kirby's son Randy, Lon Chaney, Jr., and the Lawman of television, John Russell. Now this producer, who happens to be a friend of Dad Sigler, hears the kids working out one day and --ZAP--decides to let Jack and his group do a number in the picture. No fans, you're wrong,--the song is not "Fireball Jungle." It is Jack Sigler Jr. original called "Love Can Make You Happy.".

Released: 1974, 2007

Heartsfield's second album was recorded as the band was touring like mad. The boys rented a house in a small Illinois town and moved into an average 1973 American middle-class neighborhood—what a surprise for everybody.
Perry Jordan, the band's leader says, "Here come 12 long-haired musicians, cooks, roadies, and producers with a small army of trucks, motorcycles, stereos and women making for a grand new addition to local population. One thing for sure, the only distractions were at the band house—guess that was the idea.
"On top of that the studio was a great one for sure but of all things specialized in Christian music. The title track, 'The Wonder Of It All,' won a mention in jazz music journal Down Beat Magazine as having a great jazz feel in the song."

This is when Heartsfield started to make more use of different instrumentation such as keyboards, synthesizers, harmonica, horns, banjo, pedal steel, and anything else they could find. This was also the first time they carried a vegetarian cook on the crew, and every night you could find a bunch of wild-eyed fellers at the local burger joint a couple of hours after dinner.

Группа "Mississippi" образовалась на базе ранее существовавшего в Аделаиде (Австралия) фолк-рокового трио Alison Gros, в которое входили Graeham Goble, Russ Johnson и John Mower. Трио в 1970 г. выпустило одну семидюймовую грампластинку "Naturally / Would You Really Have To Go?" они выпускают два миньона - "If I Ask You / So Good" и "All The Days / Weaver Of Life".
Moondog / All Through The Day". Автор сингла - Russ Johnson. Продюсеры издания - Peter Jones и Ern Rose.
The Little River Band... - VaTAga

Mississippi evolved from Adelaide folk-rock band called Alison Gros, a trio consisting of Graeham Goble, Russ Johnson and John Mower. Alison Gros recorded one independent single ("Naturally" / "Would You Really Have To Go?") on the Gamba label in 1970. The band then moved to Melbourne and signed to Ron Tudor's Fable Records, for whom they cut two more singles in 1971, "If I Ask You" / "So Good" (July) and "All The Days" / "Weaver Of Life" (December).
Their next recordings for Fable is a genuine oddity of Australian rock. Under the pseudonym Drummond, the members of Alison Gros cut a novelty 'chipmunk' versions of the '50s rock'n'roll classic "Daddy Cool", which was released in July '71. It was a shameless cash-in on the success of Ross Wilson's new band Daddy Cool, whose own version of that song was included on Daddy Cool's hugely successful debut album.
Riding in on the coattails of DC's chart breakthrough, the Drummond version of the song actually knocked Daddy Cool's huge #1 hit "Eagle Rock" off the top of the charts and, inexplicably, became one of the biggest hits of the year, charting for 22 weeks (a fact Ross Wilson sarcastically referred to when introducing the song during Daddy Cool's farewell concert in 1972, captured on DC's The Last Drive-In Movie album). Fable went on to release three more singles under the Drummond pseudonym, but these were apparently recorded by anonymous studio musicians and the members of Alison Gros were not involved.
In early 1972, Alison Gros changed their name to Mississippi. They recorded their excellent self-titled debut LP with the addition of session players Peter Jones (piano), Geoff Cox (drums), Barry Sullivan (bass, ex-Chain) and Graham Lyall (flute). It was released in September that year on Fable's new Bootleg imprint, a subsidiary label recently set by Tudor and musician Brian Cadd. The Mississippi album showcased the band's considerable vocal abilities and Goble and Johnson's strong writing skills. The material and the tight harmonizing showed the influence of groups like The Hollies, The Bee Gees, Crosby and Stills, Nash & Young. Their debut single "Kings of the World" (released in July) became a Top 10 hit in October. -  www.milesago.com
